Inspiration from the Students
The foundation of Fonderscience was created in close synergy with my own students.
It is their curiosity and intelligent questions that have compelled me to explore areas outside my traditional biological comfort zone.
A turning point occurred when a group of 9th-grade boys asked me to explain quantum physics – more specifically: the definition of a boson, so that it could be understood “just a little bit”.
Since quantum theory is notoriously difficult to visualize, I searched for clear overviews but found only unpedagogical hobby websites or academic texts at far too high a level.
From the Classroom to International Validation
The unanswered question about the atom and quantum physics inspired me to travel to CERN in 2019 to personally photograph the world’s largest particle accelerator (LHC) and to speak with the experts.
The goal was to create the overview that was missing in the educational sector.
The result is a poster illustrating the Standard Model.
The material was subsequently academically validated by physicist Erland Andersen, approved by CERN, and published.
Perhaps this journey proves the very core of our philosophy?
When we place what we do not know into a razor-sharp and noise-free system, shockingly difficult quantum physics is transformed into accessible and captivating learning for students in primary and upper secondary school.
